Toronto Signs
This new print celebrates the history of Toronto’s finest marquee and neon signage. The design and typography have been meticulously crafted to archive these fine specimens of Toronto's visual vernacular. And the best part: the lights GLOW IN THE DARK! Look SMART on your smartphone!
The poster was featured in the Spring 2014 issue of Spacing Magazine. My objective was to create a playfully anachronistic poster about cell phone etiquette, had cell phones existed in the 1950s. Using a simple acronym, I present five friendly reminders for "S.M.A.R.T." phone use on the TTC. The overall style is distinctly mid-century, with its brush script lettering, sans serif typography, traditional figural illustration, muted colour scheme, and offset ink placement. Pretty and witty and gay!
This 9" x 12" limited edition print was created specifically for the Buddies in Bad Times annual Art Attack auction, which helps raise money to support Canada's most exciting LGBT theatre. This piece was created using pen and ink, digitized, and then screen printed by hand using a special "split fountain" technique to create the unique technicolour gradient. Through the methods of incision and paper folding, this sculptural alphabet explores the underlying form and structure of letters, based on their geometry and inherent lines of symmetry.
