Peace Collective

This new Pride collection with Peace Collective was inspired by invaluable source material at the The ArQuives, Canada’s 2SLGBTQIA+ archives, based in the heart of Toronto’s Church Wellesley Gay Village. Since Canada’s first pride protest in Ottawa in 1971, the queer community has come together to fight for equity and inclusion. We have a vast visual vocabulary, which highlights many remarkable - and many challenging - moments of queer activist history in Canada.

All typography for this collection was crafted by hand - either with Pilot pen, lettering brush pen, or acrylic paint - to evoke the handmade quality of queer posters, zines and protest signs of the past.

As we move into Pride weekend in many major cities, it is more important than ever to remember that while we celebrate in the streets, we must also commemorate queer trailblazers who have carved the path for us. These designs for Peace Collective, presented as clusters of queer typographic ephemera, offer a triad (▼) of messaging about our past, present and future: one message of reflection, one of celebration, and one call to action. I hope these designs bring joy and a sense of empowerment to our queer community and our allies.

A percentage of sales from this collection will be donated to The Get Real Movement to help fight 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination and bullying. Happy Pride, this month, every month, all year long.
